  Liverpool have completed the £35m signing of England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal. The 24-year-old, who rejected a move to Chelsea on Tuesday after a fee had been agreed, joins on a five-year contract worth £120,000 a week. Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was in the last year of his Arsenal contract, rejected a new deal worth up to £180,000 a week to stay at the Emirates. He has started each of Arsenal’s four games so far this season. Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 198 appearances for Arsenal since joining them from Southampton in August 2011, scoring 20 goals. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he was “really happy” to have signed an “exciting” talent he “didn’t need to think twice” about.    A frustrated man named Prince Amadi, who was arrested by the Police in Port Harcourt along Nkpordiagha Road, has confessed that if not the way he dressed, they would not have arrested him.. The 27-year-old suspected murderer, had been on the run since December 19, 2016, when he allegedly stabbed someone to death at Aker Base waterfront, in Rumuolumeni,. Amadi admitted to have committed the heinous act, as a retaliation during a fight with some boys, who had stabbed him and his companion. Amadi said that he fled home after the incident. He said: “They did not see anything with me, but because of the way I dressed. They arrested me because I was wearing an earring and head-warmer. One of the policemen said I looked suspicious and arrested me. I did not drag with them.”

A young aspirant contesting for the office of a Councillor in Calabar South Local Government Area Ward 8 have been killed in a renewed gang war on Monday in Calabar, Cross River State Capital. The aspirant whose name was given as Mr. Mesembe and a strong contender was killed during the night hour at Eyo Ita Street, close to Edibe Edible. According to reports an indian man diagnosed with throat cancer allegedly killed his friend and co-worker who introduced him to cigarettes. Mustakeem Ahmad is said to have been consumed with rage at his co-worker after a doctor attributed the disease to his smoking habit. The 25yrs old men worked as chefs at a restaurant in west Delhi owned by the alleged killer’s brother-in-law, according to the Hindistan Times. Police said Ahmad also resented his colleague, named only as Inayat, because he was more successful at work. He told detectives he purchased a pistol and practised firing it to ensure he killed the victim, who had been working at the restaurant for 18 months. “Though Ahmad and Inayat were friends at the workplace, Inayat was reportedly better at his job and well-behaved and soon became the favourite of the restaurant owner,” said deputy police commissioner Sibesh Singh. Akwa Ibom State Police have arrested a 32- year - old woman, Mrs. Victoria Ndu, for faking her own kidnap.It was learnt that Ndu, who claimed to have been kidnapped , was rescued in Awommama in Imo State on August 24 by men of the anti -kidnapping squad from Akwa Ibom State police headquarters , Ikot Akpan - Abia .She was said to have been rearrested the same day after investigations revealed that Ndu actually planned her own kidnap in order to get money from her church members.Following investigation , the police said she was found to have placed N 3m as ransom for her (Victoria ) release.It was gathered that her younger brother, Victor Akan, an artisan resident in Awommama in Imo State , was also arrested for allegedly conspiring with her to commit the crime.The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, said in Uyo on Monday that the suspects were rescued and arrested same day following interrogation by men of anti -kidnapping unit where Ndu confessed to mas

The Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State has overlooked the orders as it set 170 as the cut-off mark for the 2017/2018 admission into the institution, against the minimum 120 set by JAMB. Malam Umar Usman, the varsity's Information Officer made this known in Gusau on Saturday saying: “If we will stick to the 120 minimum cut off marks given by JAMB, a majority of applicants who are going to attend the University’s aptitude test for the admission will not get it. “We decided to minimize the difficulty by raising our points to 170 so that most of those that will pay for Post UTME in the university will get the admission,” he said. He noted that the university also runs Pre-degree programme in Science, Art and Social Science with candidates who would also be considered for admission to make up for 1, 500 students required for the session.
