The Calabar Free Trade Zone in Cross River and Akwa Ibom Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has arrested three suspected job syndicates. Mrs Patience Burromvyat, the Customs Area Controller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone and Akwa Ibom Area Command, said that the suspects were arrested on Feb. 24, 2018 in Calabar. Burromvyat explained that the suspects were arrested for issuing fake customs recruitment letters to unsuspecting members of the public and duped them of large sums of money in the process. She added that the arrest was made possible through a tip-off by concerned members of the public and sustained surveillance by officers of the command. “Their method of operation involved opening a fake website on which they advertise recruitment exercise purportedly by NCS to attract innocent job seekers who are then duped of various sums of money. “I wish to seize this opportunity to advice members of the public, especially job seekers, to beware of internet fr

The Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani, has offered to recognise the Taliban as a legitimate political group as part of a process that he said could lead to talks to end more than 16 years of war. The offer, made on Wednesday at the start of an international conference aimed at creating a platform for peace discussions, is the latest signal from the western-backed government and the Taliban of greater willingness to consider dialogue. While three herdsmen where left with serious head injuries, one of the farmers received machete cuts on various parts of his body. The farmer who sustained machete cut wounds, is receiving treatment at the Emergency Ward of Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) while the injured herdsmen are receiving treatment at a hospital in Awgu, Enugu State. It was gathered that herdsmen from Mpu in Enugu invaded farmlands in Akaeze and destroyed farm crops, which angered one of the farmers that was butchered, because he confronted them. The incident forced the state governor, David Umahi, to ban grazing in the entire LGA until investigation into the matter was concluded. He said: “You bring animals in by vehicles because there are no cattle routes in this state. There is no grazing reserve in Ebonyi, there is no colony here. A landlord, Adamu Bello , has been killed by his tenant in Ganye Sumi community in the Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State during a disagreement . Northern City News learnt that Bello was stabbed to death in the chest last Thursday by the tenant, identified only as Yusuf , otherwise called Likita . The House of Representatives has insisted that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, should appear before it, to explain why he disobeyed subsisting court orders to vacate the headquarters of the Peace Corps of Nigeria located in Jabi Abuja. This was even as the National Commandant of the Corps, Amb (Dr.) Dickson Akoh, averred that, there was a grand conspiracy against the Nigerian youths by those who engineered the decision of President Muhammad Buhari to withhold assent from the Peace Corps Bill. The House Committee on public petitions, had penultimate Tuesday, ordered that the office of Peace Corps be unsealed, in line with the two recent judgements delivered by Federal High Court in Abuja, to that effect. At its sitting on Tuesday, the committee said Buhari’s rejection of the Bill is a different issue from the court order asking the police to leave the headquarters. Osun State Police Command says it has recovered about 39 stolen vehicles between January and February this year. The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the state capital. He said that the command had announced the recovery of 19 vehicles on January 30 while parading the suspects. Adeoye said another 20 vehicles have just been recovered making it 39, and the registration number of the vehicles had been changed. “I want to let you know those police detectives are not relenting on their efforts. We recovered another 20 vehicles stolen by the gangs that we paraded for stealing 19 vehicles on January 30. “We discovered that some of the vehicles were snatched at gunpoint. We have prepared the details of the vehicle for the owners to come and claim.
