An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Monday remanded a 34-year-old man, Nurudeen Adewale, at the Ilesa Prisons, over an alleged N291,000 fraud. Adewale is being tried for a two-count charge bothering on fraud and theft. The Magistrate, Mrs Adebukola Awodele, ordered the remand of the accused in prison because of the gravity of the alleged offence, after refusing to take his plea. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Taiwo Adegoke, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime between November and December 2017 at Osogbo. Adegoke told the court that the defendant had allegedly stolen N291, 000 belonging to a Microfinance Bank but was arrested by the police after several months of being on the run. He further alleged that in the defendant’s attempt to commit fraud, he had issued a dud Wema Bank cheque to a Microfinance Bank in Osogbo as part payment for the stolen money. The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 1(1)(6) of the Dishonoured Chequ

Twenty-five-year old Samuel Rasaq, who allegedly attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old girl, was on Monday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Kidnap-syndicate Rasaq , who resides in Lagos Island, appeared on a count charge of attempted kidnap to which he pleaded not guilty. The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 19 at 7.30 p.m., at John Street, Idumota, Lagos. Uwadione said that the accused had attempted to kidnap the 10-year-old girl by gagging her mouth and trying to drag her to an unknown destination. He said that the offence contravened Section 4 of the Anti-Kidnapping and Prohibition Laws of Lagos State, 2017 which prescribed a death penalty for offenders. The Chief Magistrate Mrs A. Ipaye-Nwachukwu, said the court lacked jurisdiction over the case and that the accused should approach the High Court to procure his bail. She adjourned the case until June 20 for mention. The Artic

Twelve persons were on Saturday killed and five others sustained injuries in an accident involving a Volvo truck and a Ford bus at Foursquare area on Lagos /Ibadan Expressway. The Public Relations Officer, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE),Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) explained that the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking on the part of the Ford passenger bus with registration number AAA 886 XR. He stated that the truck with registration number LSD 138 XQ, was coming from the opposite direction before the accident. “The accident happened around Foursquare camp (diversion axis) on the Lagos /Ibadan Expressway. “17 people were involved, 12 persons comprising six male and six female died while three male and two female sustained injuries, ” he said. The TRACE spokesman added that the injured victims were taken to Ife – Oluwa Plus A hospital, Ogunmakin while the corpses were deposited at FOS Mortuary

Residents of Bokkos town in Plateau State have raised the alarm over rising cases of rape, indiscriminate grazing and intimidation by suspected herdsmen. Over the past three months, indiscriminate grazing in residential areas has particularly been on the increase with no visible security intervention, a community leader in Bokkos, Mangai said. Five persons have been killed as bandits attack in Kebbi. The state Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Ibrahim confirmed the incident to journalists in the state on Tuesday. The protesters, DAILY POST gathered have taken over major streets of the state, calling on the federal government to come to their aide. DAILY POST reports that over 100 persons have been killed between yesterday and today in Guma, Gwer and Logo areas of the state by suspected herdsmen. Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation has described the purported endorsement of Adams Oshiomole by the All Progressives Congress, APC, as National Chairman as formidable.
