Imo Robbery: Police name building after hero cop

The Nigeria Police Force has honoured police officers who lost their lives to a robbery incident at a Zenith Bank branch on Wethedral Road , Owerri , Imo State, on February 22 , 2017 .

It would be recalled that the robbery became public knowledge in May after a security camera video of the incident went viral.

It was reported that sergeants Chukwudi Iboko and Sunday Agbo , who were attached to the bank at the time of the robbery died as a result of gunshot injuries. A third policeman , OtuAttang, lost one of his eyes .

The Inspector-General of Police , Ibrahim Idris , said the NPF named a newly built office complex at the Nigeria Mobile Police Force 20 in Lagos after the policemen to encourage others like them to be hardworking .

The newly built one-storey complex was commissioned by the IGP at MOPOL 20 on Thursday in Lagos .

During the commissioning, the IGP saluted the gallantry of the dead sergeants , saying they deserved to be honoured .

The IGP , who encouraged other sergeants to be dedicated while in ser vice, sympathised with the families of the deceased .

“ This is built in honour of late ChukwudiIboko and Sunday Agbo and other rank and file of the Nigeria Police who died in active service . We cherish their service to the nation, ” he added .

The wives of the deceased expressed happiness over the immortalisation of their husbands .

They, however, complained that they were denied benefits expected from the police force .

Agbo ’ s wife, Blessing , lamented that she had been side-lined from enjoying some benefits .

She said, “ The bank has not been forthcoming with their promise . I don’ t have anything to live on. Neither the bank nor the police is helping . I have six children and I want the IGP to ensure that our benefits are paid . ”

“ This is a good thing and I am happy that this kind of thing is done in their honour. But it has been hard to survive . The police should help to pay my children ’ s school fees and other necessary benefits , ” Rose Iboko added .

It would be recalled that PUNCH had launched a GoFundMe account to help the families in collaboration with some activists , raising more than $ 15 ,000 in the process .
